Sonoma County Book Arts Guild
If you make books, alter books, want to learn to make books please join us at the Center for the Arts. The intent is to create a group to share work, teach techniques, take field trips, invite guest artists to teach, and have a show.

Drawing Nature

Colored pencils are a fun, safe and portable way to express oneself artistically. Learn the basics of using colored pencil drawing including blending, burnishing and impressed line while incorporating the techniques of botanical.  We work will stem from a variety of seasonal natural objects. All levels welcome.

Go Figure!
Facilitator: James Curtis
Non-instructed drop-in, open studio figure study sessions. Draw, paint, and/or sculpt
the human figure from a live model in an open, well-lit studio. All levels of experience invited to participate. Bring your own materials. No turpenoid or turpentine solvents! Tables, easels, sink, lighting and set up for the model provided. Artists must be at least 18 years of age.
Painting/Drawing Studio
Every Mon, Drop-in, 12 noon-3pm, single 3-hour pose session-- ideal for painting or portraiture 
Fee: $15 per session or $50 for 4-prepaid sessions
Every Wed evening, Drop-in, 7-10pm, multiple short poses 1st hour, then 20 minute poses--suited for sketching gesture or developing one’s ability at caricature.
Fee: $12 per session or $40 for 4-prepaid sessions
Photography and/or sketching ONLY on occasional Friday or Saturday evenings 7-9 PM

Watercolor Painting and Collage

Monotype / Monoprint
Instructor: Linda Shelp
One day, hands-on printmaking workshop using a Pin Press Hand Printing Roller. Designed for all levels with or without printmaking or art background. Discover a unique printmaking process which incorporates printmaking, painting, drawing and collage. Participants are encouraged to bring flat, interesting objects to class.

Frame It Yourself

Pull out those prints, photographs, drawings and paintings and learn how to frame them yourself using simple tools and available resources. Save money cutting your own mats and finishing with wood or designer metal frames. Plenty of personal attention and hands-on mat cutting practice.
Bring your artwork to be framed.

Weaving: Basics & Beyond
Summer Weight Fabrics
Instructor: Marta Shannon

Experienced weavers will focus on weaving loom shaped tops, shawls, table linens, or other projects using wonderful summer yarns such as cotton, linen, or other natural fibers. Project costs will vary. Beginners will learn to measure a warp, dress the loom and weave a sampler (warp provided). Looms available courtesy of the Redwood Empire Handweavers & Spinners Guild.

Open “Drop In” Studio
Non-instructed studio time for open-minded potters with some experience. One of the few public facilities in Sonoma County open to the public for ceramic hand-building, sculptural and wheel-work. Studio features 8 potter’s wheels, slab roller, extruder, glaze and electric kilns. Fire cone 5. No production potters.

Spring in to Pottery
Instructor: Randy Snyder

Come play with clay.  This class will focus on the potters wheel learning to wedge, center, and pull the clay to create bowls, cups, and vases. Other techniques like pinch, slab, and coil will also be covered.  We will glaze and high fire our finished projects. Great for beginning and seasoned potters trying to bring it to the next level.
Sign up early space limited.
